Assassin’s Creed Mirage is ready to ship - a week early - Weekly Roundup

In an age of delays, pushbacks, and cancellations, the headline may be a bit shocking, but it’s true. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the stealth-and-shadow franchise’s latest entry, has had a release date change – and it’s now coming out a week earlier.

October is looking to be one of the busiest gaming months since February of last year saw Sifu, Elden Ring, and Horizon: Forbidden West drop in a three-week span. Alan Wake 2 arrives the 17th of the month, with Spider-Man 2 *and* Super Mario Bros. Wonder sharing the 20th (gaming’s own “Barbenheimer”). Originally, Assassin’s Creed Mirage was set to kick off the festivities on October 12th, but Ubisoft recently announced that that date was changing for the better to October 5th.

This was most likely a strategic move on Ubisoft’s part to avoid getting lost in the shuffle of blockbuster releases. When game releases get too crowded on the calendar, people will pick and choose which game to spend their hard-earned money (and harder-earned time) on and smaller titles be forgotten entirely. For instance, Darkest Dungeon 2 came out in early May, but the same week as potential GOTY The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – and was lost amidst the sea of headlines and playthroughs of one of the biggest games of the year.

Thus, by spacing out October’s calendar a bit more, Ubisoft has afforded themselves some much needed breathing room alongside the titans that are Spider-Man and Mario. So, here’s to you, Ubisoft! Congrats on bucking the trend and not delaying your game.
